The RCMP said the unidentified remains were found Sunday afternoon at a property on Hiram Lynds Road near Truro.
The Mounties have been searching the site since Wednesday in an ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Randy Mersereau.
He was last seen on Oct. 31, 1999, and police believe he was murdered but his body has never been found.
A Truro-area man — 43-year-old Gerald MacCabe of Salmon River — was charged last Monday with accessory after the fact to murder.
The Mounties are working with the medical examiner's officer to identify the remains found."
